We're a Carbon Neutral office

World Nomads regards travel to be fantastic opportunity to open your eyes, mind and heart to other lives and lifestyles and engender tolerance and make global friends. Independant, sustainable travel in particular can contribute to local communities who need economic opportunities whilst treading lightly on the environment. Overall, there are huge benefits of travelling.

... but...

we do have a personal responsibility to limit our impact on global warming. The impact of air travel is quite significant as it releases Carbon Dioxide, one of the major causes of climate change - and lots of it. For example, two people taking a return flight between Europe and the US will contribute as much to climate change as an average household's gas and electricity consumption over a whole year.

Making World Nomads carbon neutral

World Nomads would like to be part of a sustainable travel industry and so has decided to offset our carbon emissions for the business. To repair the damage done, all staff flights and office electricity costs have been offset through a tree planting program with http://www.elementree.com.au

Here's how we worked it out:

Australian Office

flights: 501,210 kms 80.69 tonnes
office electricity (true cost): 17,385 kW 18.32 tonnes

UK Office

flights: 7,680 kms 1.23 tonnes
office electricity (true cost): 5000 kW 5.27 tonnes

US Office

flights: 38,096 kms 6.13 tonnes
office electricity (true cost): 2500 kW 0.71 tonnes

Total Emissions 117.63 tonnes*

Total offset through tree planting

471 trees

* Carbon Calculators:
We calculated the impact of our flights using a carbon calculator. It's pretty interesting to find out the impact of your own flights - hopefully you too will choose to offset your emissions. Here are some useful links:
