“I have always been a healthy young woman and did not plan on ending up in hospital with a life-threatening condition while travelling in Switzerland. Without any prior symptoms or warning signs that something was wrong, I was admitted to hospital in Zurich with sudden onset of a ‘burst berry aneurysm’. From what I now understand, an aneurysm is an abnormal ballooning of an artery and, when it bursts, it can result in stroke or life-threatening hemorrhaging. A ‘burst berry aneurysm’ occurs in the brain (apparently, according to medical eyes, the swelling looks like a berry dangling from a vine… not that I was concerned by euphemisms at the time!). It was a terrifying experience for me and my family”
