World Nomads Create Scholarships Photography 2019 Applications Life In The Highest Mountains On Earth Life in the highest mountains on Earth by Karolina Szostak (Great Britain) Nepal Shares Facebook Twitter Sherpa = Shyar (east) & Pa (people), were nomadic people who settled in the Himalayas. Male part of this ethnic group seems to continue this tradition with their constant hard work up and down the highest mountains on Earth. Often when referencing Sherpa, the focus tend to be on men. However, women also remain active taking care of their households but also bringing income from local produce such as yak cheese: forming, cutting and washing the final product before it can be sold. Women also play an important role in creating a real sense of community, where people care for and look after each other. Whether that's brother/sisterhood by blood or a neighborhood support, sharing and caring is key, even it comes to things as trivial as lice checking among the youngest. Kids will be kids in any part of the world. They need to learn and play despite the surrounding conditions. They are the most creative and inventive among all age groups in the society, like here on this picture, trying to adjust the rules of traditional hide-and-seek game. Play & physical exercise is vital for youngsters, who will soon have to hike, often a few hours, to the nearest school in order to learn how to read and write and gain knowledge about a wider world. Most of them will never find out what it looks like remaining true to their mountains.
