On my second day in Burma I woke up in the middle of the night with intense abdominal distress. I was rushed to Asia Royal Hospital and immediately taken for evaluation and ultrasound in their Emergency Room. It was determined that I had a large mass in my abdomen (it was believed then on my liver) and needed to see a specialist. It was determined that it was safe for me to fly and I was evacuated to Bangkok, Thailand, that evening. I was admitted immediately via ER to Bumrungrad International Hospital. I stayed there for 8 days for a battery of tests, including several ultrasounds, a CT scan, and two aspirations of what it was now clear is a renal cyst. I was able to be conditionally discharged from BI Hospital after 8 days, but I was restricted to rest in a hotel until a follow up in order to determine if it was safe to evacuate me back to the US at that time. Upon my return to BI Hospital, I was able to be evacuated, and with Oncall and Tripmate, I was able to be given a flight two days later and return back to the US, where I am now receiving local treatment.
