Project background

Children are facing extreme hunger and dire living conditions all over Gaza, their lives are at risk daily. At least 132,000 children aged under five face risk of death from acute malnutrition, and at least 135 children have already starved to death (as of 6 September 2025), according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. Children in Gaza have been paying the heaviest price for an unrelenting war they’ve played no part in. To prevent further death and suffering a lasting ceasefire and full humanitarian access in Gaza is needed. Urgent funding is needed for Save the Children to continue providing critical services for children and families.

Project overview

Amid this very tough situation, and with help from their local partner organisations, Save the Children’s teams have been working tirelessly to deliver aid to children. Despite the access challenges, they have managed to keep life-saving services running and have already reached more than 1.6 million people with urgent support. Right now, their teams and partners in Gaza are still supporting families across 100 locations with:

  • Screening and treatment for malnourished children and mothers, providing medical interventions, supplements and high calorie biscuits and pastes in their healthcare centres.
  • Deliveries of clean water via trucks to 20 communities.
  • Distributions of cash and vouchers to families. Learning centres where children receive mental health support as well as classroom lessons in English, Arabic and math to help them regain a sense of normalcy.
  • Safe spaces that allow children to play, as well as access tochild protection case management services.

Project outcomes

The key outcomes of this project include providing children and families with:

  •  Food
  •  Water
  •  Warm clothes and blankets
  •  Mental health and psychosocial support
  •  Medical equipment and support
  •  Education

What costs are covered?

  • Procuring and distributing essential supplies such as food, water, medical equipment, educational resources, and facilitating cash transfers.
  • Mobilising teams and setting up support services for families arriving in neighbouring countries.
  • Setting up and running child friendly spaces for children.

Partner and? community involvement

Save the Children currently works with twelve active partner organisations (eight in Gaza and four in the West Bank). Their local knowledge is vital in our response as they have a deep understanding of the contextual challenges and specific needs of children in the region. Partner organisations have helped run temporary learning spaces, deliver food kits, and distribute vital supplies such as drinking water, hygiene products, mattresses, blankets, learning materials, and toys and games. Partners are also helping support the mental health, and psychosocial wellbeing of boys and girls, and their caregivers.

How does this project fit into a larger strategy?

Save the Children is the world’s first global movement for children, and today is the largest independent child rights organisation. They work in 113 countries, with children and families who are affected by poverty, conflict, and crisis. Their vision is a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development, and participation. The mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting impact in their lives. They fight to reach children impacted by emergencies and conflict with the immediate lifesaving care they need to survive, then stay to provide psychosocial support and restart their learning so they can build a better future.
