File your claim online 24/7

Having been on the road for long periods ourselves, we know that waiting until you get home to file a claim isn’t always ideal. World Nomads gives you the freedom to make a claim from wherever you are and whenever you like, so you can keep traveling.

How to file a claim in 5 easy steps

1. Things happen

Don’t panic. If you're experiencing a medical emergency, call our 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team. Keep your plan number handy and be ready with a phone number where you can be reached. If this isn’t a medical emergency and you’d like to discuss another situation, you can call Customer Service at Trip Mate (our claims administrator) at 1-844-207-1930 or wnclaims@tripmate.com. *Expected response time is 24-48 hours and no expense or event will be a guarantee of coverage without a claim filed.

2. Start a claim

Login to your member account. If you're not a member, you need to sign up for an account here. Nomads Tip: Locate both your plan number (starts with the letters F or N) and your policy number (starts with a WN); you’ll need to input both on the online form.

3. Follow the prompts

You will be prompted to click onto the portal for Trip Mate. Answer the questions relevant to your claim and fill out all required fields. Gather any documents you need to submit. You can save your claim as a draft if you need to go back to it. If you want to receive emailed responses, indicate that via eConsent. Nomads Tip #1: You’ll be asked for a confirmation number – this is where you’ll put your policy number (starts with a WN). Nomads Tip #2: In the ‘destination’ field, put down the destination where the incident or loss occurred. Even if you had multiple destinations in your trip, just indicate where the incident first happened.

4. Upload & click send

Upload the required documents to support your claim, like receipts or medical notes. You’ll then be asked to sign the claim form prior to submission. You can either print, sign and upload, or download the form as a PDF and sign electronically using an application like Adobe Reader. If you need to send us an email in the future, use your claims number (which can be found on the claim form) in the subject line.

5. Keep calm & travel on

The claims team will be in touch if it needs more information and will keep you updated on the status of your claim. On average, the claims process takes 10-15 business days but can take up to 30 days from the time Trip Mate receives the completed claim forms and supporting documentation via email or mail.

Tips for Making a Claim

  • Scan receipts and/or take photos of your belongings before you depart on your trip. If you need to make a claim for lost, stolen or damaged bags or gear, you’ll need proof that you own the items you are claiming for.
  • Remember that travel insurance is considered secondary, or excess. This means that in all cases, you must first try to seek compensation from other sources, like your home health insurance or an airline.
  • If you experience a travel delay or cancelation by your airline, you must first try to get the issue resolved with them directly. You must get the reason for the cancelation or delay in writing, and seek compensation from them first. As of 2024, US airline passengers have clearly defined rights to refunds and compensation, as outlined by the Department of Transportation. Exercise your rights first with the airlines and then determine if you have an additional travel insurance claim. If you do, you’ll need documentation to prove the cause of the travel disruption and what the airline offered or provided you.
  • If your bags are lost by an airline, first try to resolve the issue with them and keep a copy of the paperwork. Check out our article on baggage and gear for details on what may be covered and how to expedite the return of your luggage.
  • If your bags are damaged by a travel provider (like an airline or train), report damage of your stuff to them first and keep a copy of the paperwork. Ask for compensation from your travel provider first before you file a travel insurance claim.
  • Theft at your destination? Report it to the police as soon as possible (you’ll need the police report to file a claim)
  • If you are hurt or sick and need to seek medical care during your travels, medical costs should be paid upfront and receipts/itemized bills from the provider should be sent to your primary insurance first. Send us a copy of any expenses denied by your primary insurance for us to review with your claim.
  • Gather any other documentation that may be related to your claim (i.e. new flight itinerary, doctor’s notes etc.). You’ll need to submit the documentation within 90 days.
  • If you consented to be contact via email (you checked the box for eConsent), watch out for correspondence from Trip Mate asking for additional information needed to proceed with your claim. Without a response, Trip Mate won’t be able to proceed with completing the claim.

A painless and intuitive claims process

I was pickpocketed while in Mexico City and had my new iPhone stolen as well as my driver’s license. The claims process for World Nomads was painless and really intuitive. I simply logged everything online. The resolution was extremely fair, and I would be happy to recommend World Nomads to anyone.
