What does baggage insurance not cover?

Travel insurance isn’t designed to cover everything. Some things we don't cover include:

  • Leaving your gear behind;
  • Things stolen because you haven’t kept your eye on them;
  • Leaving your gear in an unattended car;
  • Prescribed medications;
  • When you don't get a theft or loss report from an authority;
  • Professional or occupational equipment or property;
  • Certain items including but not limited to:
    • Antiques and collector’s items, tickets, musical instruments, keys and cash;
    • Eye glasses, sunglasses or contact lenses;
    • Credit cards, stamps, securities and documents;
    • Professional or occupational equipment or property, whether or not electronic business equipment;
    • Sporting equipment if loss or damage results from the use of them.

Travel Insurance Baggage Tips:

  • Find and scan your receipts before you leave.
  • If an airline loses your baggage, notify them right away and get a record.
  • Theft? Report it to the police within 24 hours.
  • Password protect your devices and enable the lock screen if possible.
  •  If you’ve got a handset or tablet that can be blocked, block it.
  • Make a claim within seven days; submit documentation within 90 days.

  • What if I don’t have receipts?
    You can still file a claim. However, the item might depreciate, or we may be unable to process your claim without additional information. If you are trying claim reimbursement for purchases made because of a baggage delay, we require receipts. Read our Help Center article for more info on what to do if you don’t have documentation.
  • Why do my items get depreciated?
    Things like electronics age and get knocked about. Depreciation happens to match the claim to the item's current price, not the original retail price.

Baggage Delay in Delhi

When I arrived in Delhi from Rome, the baggage claim desk informed me that my bag had been delayed in transit. I was without my bag for almost a week before it was finally delivered. Since it was winter in Delhi, and my warm jacket was in my bag, I had to purchase a new jacket and other warm clothing that I had not packed in my carry-on.
