Meet Michael Shapiro
Travel Journalist
Michael’s adventure travel career began in the days before email and cellphones, with an extended trip to Guatemala. He studied Spanish in Antigua, co-led whitewater raft trips, and wrote for a Guatemalan magazine. His first travel story was about Guatemala, for the San Francisco Examiner-Chronicle. He contributes travel, arts and environment stories to National Geographic, the Washington Post, and many others. Michael lives with his wife and two cats in northern California.
