On Monday 20 April 2026, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Japan, with effects felt as far as Tokyo. Residents in impacted areas on the Northern Coast have been advised to raise their preparedness due to the risk of further seismic activity over the coming week. There is a potential for disruption to travel if seismic activity continues.
