Eligibility
- How old do I need to be to be eligible to enter?
You need to be at least 18 or the age of majority in your country (whichever is higher) at the time of the competition entry deadline (19 May 2021) in order to enter. Sorry, we can't make any exceptions to this rule.
- I'm not from an English-speaking country. Can I still enter?
Of course! But remember, your entry must be written in English.
- I can't find my country of residence in the drop-down list. Why?
Unfortunately, due to legal restrictions in each country, this competition is not open to residents of Italy, Quebec, Crimea, Iran, Syria, North Korea and Sudan. While we would have loved to include them, it's out of our hands. The individual laws of each country restrict us from running this competition in each jurisdiction. If you are a resident of one of these excluded countries and also a resident of a country not on this list then you can still enter.
- Do I need a current passport? What about visa requirements?
If you need a valid passport and/or other necessary travel documentation and visas to claim the prize, you’ll need to sort those out yourself.
- I work for one of your campaign partners. Can I enter?
Sorry, employees of World Nomads, OneSeed Expeditions, Hostelworld, Light My Fire and Tomorrow's Air and their subsidiaries and affiliated companies, and members of their immediate families or households, are ineligible to enter this competition.
Your entry
- Can I enter more than once?
No, you can only submit one entry per person, make it a good one!
- Does my entry have to be in English?
Yes, the judges won't be able to understand your entry unless it is written in English.
- Is my entry public?
No, your entry to the competition won't be publicly visible. The only people who will see it are our judging team.
- Do I need to buy travel insurance to enter?
You don’t have to buy anything to enter.
- How will the winner and runners-up be chosen?
The winner and 20 runners-up will be chosen based on their creativity by having the most interesting, unique, original and well-written answer as chosen by a panel of judges at World Nomads and Hostelworld. You can find the weightings in the terms and conditions page under point 7. 'Selection and Notification of Winners'.
The trip
- What will the winner receive?
The winner will receive the following:
- US$2,000 spending money from World Nomads
- US$500 accommodation credit for the trip from Hostelworld
- US$2,000 tour voucher from OneSeed Expeditions
- US$300 worth of sustainable outdoor products from Light My Fire
- A virtual tour of Climeworks direct air capture facility in Switzerland, valued at US$400
- What will the runners up receive?
Each runner-up will receive US$50 voucher from Hostelworld and a Spork´n Straw Kit Titanium from Light My Fire valued at US$49.
- How will I receive my prizes?
World Nomads will introduce you to our partners at OneSeed Expeditions, Hostelworld, Light My Fire and Tomorrow's Air via email and you will need to organize the receipt of your prize directly with them.
- When do I have to travel by?
You will be able to choose your own travel dates, however, all bookings and vouchers must be redeemed before 1 July, 2022.
- Can I bring a travel companion on the trip?
Yes, you can bring a companion with you on your trip. However, the prizes are non-transferrable and the bookings must be made in your name.
- How long is the trip?
You can decide the length of your trip, however any expenses incurred above the prize limits will be your responsibility.
- What is the spending money for?
The spending money will go towards any expenses on your trip that are not outlined in the prizes listed above. This will include, but is not limited to: food, extra activities, travel insurance and any accommodation costs not included in the tour prize.
Troubleshooting
- I have a problem submitting my entry. Can I email my entry to you?
No, all entries must be submitted using our form. If you're having trouble submitting your entry, please try using a different internet browser or device. If your entry gets lost in cyberspace or doesn’t arrive for any other reason, that’s not World Nomads' fault.
- I keep receiving a word count error with my entry. How can I fix this?
Make sure your entry is 50 words or less as per our form. We encourage all entrants to type their submissions directly into our form to avoid any issues.
- I'm not sure if my entry was submitted correctly. How do I check this?
You should receive a confirmation email once you've submitted your entry. Please check your junk or spam mailbox if you don't see it in your general inbox.
