Arriving on Sylt in search of beautiful beaches and lighthouses. The only way to reach the island is to fly, train, or take the ferry. At this time of year driving and walking around the island is a quiet affair.

New Years Day. It's cloudy, cold, windy and absolutely stunning. The only people we've seen on the island are gathered at Sansibar, partying inside or walking the endless beaches sipping champagne. The wind picks up the sand and swirls it around us. This northern-most beach runs 40 kilometers long.

Selfies and snapshots. The lighthouse is stunning any way you look at it. It's imposing structure stands resolute against the raging wind and waves lapping in the distance.

The path to light. The lighthouses guide those at sea. The length and shape of the island can make it tricky for even the most skilled sailor to navigate.
