Pilgrimage. The Yadnya Kasada is a hindu festival held in Mt Bromo (Java, Indonesia). The crowds travel together up the mountain and throw offerings into the crater of the volcano.Hope. Despite the evident danger, some locals of poor condition risk climbing down into the crater to retrieve the sacrificed goods, believing that they will bring good luck.Awaiting. Pilgrims throw vegetables, fruit, livestock, flowers and even money, which are offered in gratitude for agricultural and livestock abundance.Expectations. Poor people and beggars from surrounding villages wait in the caldera with nets to catch the offerings.A good catch. Worshippers do not mind if other villagers catch their offerings, as they say it represents having their sins taken away and it also benefits the families of the villagers who catch them.
