The silent sacrifices that take place in a shelter, fostering the minorities often overlooked; senior citizens and special needs individuals, are tales hardly ever heard of. Their toils, their struggles, their love and their humility for those in need, deserve attention and respect as they devote their whole selves to serving a small ostracized community.

From the example set by their caregivers, the sheltered have learnt simple survival skills, that has aided in giving them a sense of importance. Given time, attention, with patience and care, KunKun has become one of the most responsible occupants of the home. She, along with a few others help their caregivers with daily chores.

Besides basic skills, some of them have also been taught to make treasures out of other men's trash and this helps them sustain as funds are not often channeled their way.

KunKun has also learnt to look after her fellow inmates and has adapted such kind, patient ways to dealing with even some of the tremendously difficult and sometimes violent ones there.

Many of them are incapable of looking after themselves and the caretakers, as well as some special, more independent ones like Kunkun, struggle to meet their needs as the help-to-patient ratio weighs heavily on the latter, with 4 caregivers and approximately 120 occupants at the Kirtash Home of Handicapped and Disabled.
