Kanchanaburi Railway Station, Thailand. The most remarkable journeys start by train. A plunge into the horrific history of the Thai-Burma Railway, known as the Death Railway. For only 100 baht one way, you are in for a ride you won't easily forget.

Though sober, spartan even, and very reminiscent of WWII, the austere interior of the III class train looked authentic, clean and was anything but uncomfortable. The 2-hour scenic route to Tham Krasae Railway Station was indeed a rare delight.

Admittedly it was a long journey for some, and definitely longer for others. I, however, enjoyed every minute of it, furtively stealing shots everywhere I could. Yet another authentic moment.

A few yards from the Tham Krasae Railway Station is this breathtaking viewpoint, overlooking a peaceful bend of the Khwae Noi River, perfect for a lunch break. The view was one of the highlights of the day, even in the most unforgiving midday light.

Arguably it is one of the most iconic bridges in the world, The Bridge on the River Kwai still bears testament of the atrocities committed during the WWII. Enveloped in a warm sunset light, the bridge came to life and was indeed the peak of my day.
