Bothies are a network of basic shelters found in remote areas in the northern UK. They are left unlocked and free for anyone to use. The Lookout, once a coastguard station, was repurposed as a bothy in the 1970s.

The only way to reach the Lookout is by hiking about an hour from the main road through a hilly field. The locals will be there to greet you on your way.

The Lookout has no electricity, no running water, not even an outhouse.  Given its distance from any stores or guest facilities, you need to come prepared to rough it.
