Yangon is a diverse blend of Burmese, British, Indian, and Chinese influences. This diversity is even seen in the clear divisions of the neighborhoods architecture and the food for sale.Remnants of old British colonial architecture can be found throughout the city, mostly dating back from the 19th century. Most people in Yangon, men and women alike, wear the traditional dress “longyi” and for men it is considered appropriate business attire. On top of this, newspapers are still common as the days of widespread digital screens and internet is still limited here.Due to the lack of elevators and high congestion of downtown Yangon, most people have simple ropes and clips hanging from their balconies for quick food deliveries. After reopening up to tourism in 2012, Myanmar and Yangon have seen rapid changes. It’s difficult to say what will happen to many of the current traditions as modernization and westernization move in. The days of newspapers and pedestrian traffic are increasingly threatened.
