But it also offers great places for hiking like Salento, a small town in the Los Nevados National Natural Park, which is famous for the Cocora Valley. The name origins from the Cocora wax palms, the highest palms of the world with maximum 60 meters height.

From the Cocora Valley you can start a 3 days hike to the peak Paramillo del Quindío which has an altitude of 4.750 meters. On the way up, you cross different vegetation zones, each offering unique epidemic plants. I especially liked the colorful sand close to the peak.

The Piedro del Peñol, a 2135 meter high monolith, provides another opportunity to combine walking with a great view. Around 700 stairs have to be mastered to reach the top but from there you are rewarded with a 360 ° view over the reservoir of Guatapé which creates a collection of islands.

After these adventures it is time for some relaxation, where can you do this better than at the beach? In the Tayrona National Park in the north you find some of the most beautiful beaches of Colombia, surrounded by protected jungle and its fauna.
