August 6th, 1945, the city known as Hiroshima was bathed in atomic fire in an attempt to end world war 2. As a result, over 120,000 civilians were killed in what is known as one of the most catastrophic events in history.A memorial for all the lives lost due to the bombing sits directly in the middle of Hiroshima's peace park, many flowers and wreaths line the memorial all year round.A statue built in remembrance of Sadako Sasaki and all the other victims of the bombing. Sadako was only two years old when the bomb was dropped and suffered immensely from the radiation it produced in the blast, dying from cancer at age 12.One of the many memorials in the peace park, this memorial in particular is made into the shape of a clock, the time itself represents the time that the bomb was dropped.A simple, yet bone chilling inscription lies under the Sadako Sasaki statue, dedicated to all who lost their lives in the bombing. "This is our cry. This is our prayer. Peace in the world."
