On my first venture into the mighty Giza, we were introduced to the locals. As we gazed in wonder at the mighty structures that lay before us, they watched on, uninterested. They knew these Pyramids all to well, and no doubt the novelty had worn off.One of the locals told me: "Close your eyes, until you are standing at the feet of Abu Simbel, and you will gaze upon it with the same sense of wonder that our ancestors did, when they discovered it for the first time".Egypt was home to countless statues and images of the great kings and rulers. But ironically, their wonder and detail rather reflected the unmatched skill of the simple craftsmen who built them. The Red Sea held many wonders. Fish, Dolphins, Turtles. But it was what lay beyond the horizon that grabbed my attention. My desire to explore the further lands of the middle east, had been further fuelled by the marvels of Egypt. There was so much more to explore.Whilst my time Egypt had come to an end, a part of my soul will remain forever. Always wondering. How did they build the pyramids? Was it aliens? Was Achmid's schwarma really the best schwarma in all of Africa?
