Black/ African American, pansexual, bi-curious, woman. I graduated high school and chose to take a gap year because I needed a break. I moved to Brasil for 8 months not knowing anyone and not speaking portuguese. Traveling Florianopolis helped me amplify my love for exploration, adventure, and knowledge. On my last month in country I came to the ongoing conclusion that my journey was merely starting. I am progressively learning portuguese, and I have explored my new sexuality. I identify as a pansexual member of the LGBTQ community. I have had the amazing opportunity to meet students who are involved in the same gap year program from China, Rwanda, Jamaica, Greece Ireland, and Costa Rica. We have had discussions ranging from sexuality to religion to life to mental health. These conversations have only sparked an even bigger flame within. The flame of curiosity and education, to continue learning about other cultures, countries, languages, etc which I hope to pursue in life. In the end of my teenage years, I have traveled internationally as an individual, I have learned the true meaning of being alone, and above other things I have experienced the deep meaning behind mental and emotional self care. I believe my experiences and time spent in Brasil, will be helpful once I start my next adventure. I look forward to the next chapter in my life because I am ready for more.
