Life comes with its limitations and challenges and we are responsible for our happiness and growth. I look at the world and what makes our humanity and often wonder what does that in-tell. Would it be the physical space, the language, the culture, the customs? How do we connect to these things if we are not in the midst of its formation. How do we fulfill our hearts with what we learn and experience in our personal growth? As a Torontonian, I can say the world is at our fingertips; a perfect blend of cultures and traditions available to you on many platforms. Countless festivals, workshops, venues and experiences that exposes you to a world you have never thought of. I have always used this to my advantage, I even went as far as to learn a new language and culture, Spanish. I took four courses in high school, i have made Hispanic friends, I will occasionally go to dance workshops to learn how to dance some Bachata and Meringue. I am even at a point in life, where I rather use Spanish subtitles to follow a show and basically anything to make me feel close to the culture and all its implications. I was comfortable with the experience I gained in Toronto, I did not think there could be another way to fulfill my curiosity until I was offered an opportunity I could not decline. As we grow older, we try to do meaningful things to help with our spiritual, physical and mental growth. We try to fulfill ourselves with our interests and explore everything we once thought was a risk. In 2019, I worked for a tour operator and the budget to send certain employees on different trips was available and I was earned the opportunity to tour Spain and the date landed on my birthday. It is one thing to be lucky, it is another thing for the universe to align with your curiosity. Once upon a time, this opportunity was presented to me in high school but the plan could not be executed. I never traveled to Europe before and the thought of it was enough for me to continue to learn about a culture that I could experience from a distance. Lets fast forward to Spain and I must confess that there are no books, no ads, no festivals that can match what I felt when I toured Spain. On the agenda, we were doing a minimum of 2 nights stays in the following cities; Madrid, Sevilla, Granada, Valencia and Barcelona. We also made stops in Toledo, Cordoba and Purullena. I thought my imagination could take me places but touring Spain fulfilled a part of me I did not know my being was yearning. As I toured Spain, everything I learned finally came to life. I went to Toledo and saw the painting of "El Entierro de Senor Orgaz" en la Iglesia de Santo Tome Toledo and walked where the legacy of a nation, that later had the greatest influence on human history, began. In Cordoba, I saw Christianity and |slam compliment each other through art and architecture and combined a new art style is birthed, Moderja. In Sevilla, I saw the passion and fire in women and men, young and old, dancing and singing the traditional songs and dances of Flamenco. In Granada, I felt like royalty as I entered through the doors of the Alhambra. I experience spectacular views as stepped into beautiful balconies viewed the city. In Barcelona, I was able to experience the tension between the province of Catalan and the rest of Spain as the elections was during my stay. All that while enjoying rounds of Tapas, sangrias and cafes in every city. Spain was beyond my expectations, I am still in awe. I was able to cherish my experiences by embracing its original roots. My curiosity for a language helped me challenge and appreciate myself a lot more. I didn’t know my heart would be fulfilled in Spain. The journey made me appreciate the fruits of my labour because I was able to find pieces of myself in every city I toured.
