A Magical Moment

A leap into the unknown Brazil

Brazil is a place where everyone associates with beaches, but where I live there is not a single beach. Maybe for this reason, going to the beach is a very special thing for me and for years I have dreamed about learning to scuba dive. In 2018, I was trying to experiment new things, to follow more my dreams and then, I decided to take a scuba diving course. The test of the course was going to be in a city called Arraial do Cabo, in the state of Rio de Janeiro and until then I had never gone there. So, I decided to make this little adventure and go by myself to the city. Arraial do Cabo is a well-preserved area, with a rich biodiversity. It is a natural reserve where people like to go to make ecological tourism. It has beautiful beaches and a blue crystal-clear sea. Well, the first day there I could not see all of that, it was cloudy, rainy and cold. I was alone and thinking that I went to the wrong place. But then I went to the beach and every time I go to the beach I reconnect with nature and feel more complete, as if my body needed a moment with the sea. It wasn’t different this time, when I dived into the crystal and salty waters of Arraial do Cabo, I felt the possibility to have a new beginning, to reinvent myself at that very instant. There were only me and the sea, and it was all I needed at that moment. A few hours passed and at that same beach, I saw the sunset in the sea. This is a rare phenomenon in Brazil, we only see the sun rising at the beach. But there you can see because of the shape of Arraial do Cabo. And this shape is what makes that place so special, this is was makes it has cold waters and such a rich biodiversity. And to me it is like a small and magical place, where everything is possible. I went there to take a test of my scuba diving course and then the days of the tests came by. I met incredible people, of different parts of Brazil and different areas and we became close. I wasn’t feeling well in the first day, I was seasick and I little worried about the test, but then, in the moment I felt the ground bellow me, I looked and I saw a turtle swimming behind my instructor. I was stunned, I could not believe that one of the most desired things in my life, to see a turtle so close in the nature, was happening at that very moment. It was swimming by herself, free in the ocean. And then I felt that connection, I felt that I could be free like that in my life. I will never forget this. The tests went by really well and everyone was amazed about everything we saw. In the same place, I saw the Moon rise and the Sun set. I saw a fog make an island disappear, birds dive into the light and a cloud travel through the horizon. I saw a human breath underwater, fish on the ground and a turtle be free. I saw many smiles and laughed many times. In a same place, I saw unforgettable moments; Photographic memories, that echoes the sound of the sea on the beach. In the same place, I was each moment.
