It is rare to find those places that make you feel found and welcome. It's weird because sometimes we look for places with certain characteristics and suddenly these places that you had no idea what they entailed come to you. They find you and wrap you in their cultural wealth and natural harmony that you fall in love with it not only for what it is but for what it makes you feel. A few years ago I had the opportunity to visit a town in my country called San Luis Potosí. My mom sent me there with a friend of mine and her mom. She told me "it would be good for me to get out of my comfort zone" and boy did I get out of my comfort zone. Let's start with the fact that it was 9 stormy hours on the road full of curves and holes; Not to mention the fact that we were 8 in a Jetta of 5. Oooh, but the car was comfortable compared to my "bed" for the next 7 days. It wasn't even a bed, it was a sheet and a pillow on the floor. The worst part is that we stayed at the house of the mother of the husband of the friend that was friends with the mother of my friend. Does it make sense? Because back then it didn't. Now it should be noted that being there your comfort is the least you were able to think about. Your first priority was not to get bitten by a spider or a bug. So, my vacation we're not going as expected, it was actually the opposite. You see, I had the opportunity to travel a lot with my parents and I always had the blessing of being able to enjoy certain luxuries that allowed me to be comfortable. Well, here the word luxury disappeared from the map. The first days, I was really close-minded, I was scared of the unknown. It was the first time I was traveling without my family. I wondered all the time what the hell was I doing there. I used to repeat how bad it was, until one day we went to some waterfalls. They were the most beautiful waterfalls I had ever seen. They had a turquoise color that was simply amazing. The sound they emitted was peaceful but powerful. I stayed on the shore contemplating what was in front of me. Suddenly my eyes opened. I looked up and I could see a blue sky clear of the smoke of the city, with few clouds and a radiant sun that made my skin darker and darker. I began to see around me and I saw strong and healthy trees, which were cared for and not felled or mistreated as in my city. I listened to birds in harmony with the waterfall water and it was a sound that was unique and I had never had the pleasure of listening to. Suddenly everything was transformed and that gray cloud that I carried on my shoulders vanished. At that moment I understood why I was there. I was able to appreciate things differently. Change the perspective of things. Suddenly it was not me who slept in the house of strangers. It was that despite my being a stranger those people gave me a roof. I had the opportunity to live with the animals that gave us our daily food like the eggs we had for breakfast and I realized that everything really was a cycle. I realized that those comforts or luxuries to which I was so accustomed were only a barrier in my life to connect with many aspects. And come on I don't say no to a good hotel or restaurant, but getting out of my comfort zone allowed me to see the place with new eyes, better yet it allowed me to see life and its aspects with new eyes. Being able to be in a place and be able to connect with its true essence is the best feeling I have experienced. The best thing was that I didn't find the place, the place found me.
