A Place To Call Home

Making a local connection Vietnam

I recall walking through dark alleyways, numbers stamped on the walls, as I followed my guide. As we turned narrow corners I acted quickly, as motorbikes zoomed past with glaring headlights. My heart was pounding and I felt like I was burning up. Suddenly, when my guide opened a black steel framed door, I felt oddly at ease. I walked in, noticing the family photos along the walls and the beautiful oriental vases in the living room. The smells of fried spring rolls and an array of unique spices in the air. When I saw Mrs. Van with her arms open and tea served on the table I knew my home-stay visit in Vietnam was going to be the best experience of my life and my future home away from home.
