As I was boarded the plane, my heart was racing, I had never flown before. With a shaky hand, I lifted my carry on bag and took my seat by the window, closing it immediately. I was flying for the first time to a place I had never been, a city they called "The City of Angels". I had no grand dreams as a child of visiting Los Angeles but I knew that there was something missing from my life and I wanted to find out what exactly was missing. I was terrified the entire flight, thinking of all the bad things that could happen on an airplane. When we finally landed about 6 hours later I was relieved. As I walked out of the airport, I was overwhelmed by the amount of people that were there. I eventually waived down a taxi and went to a hotel that I stayed at for two days. After checking in and eating, I made my way to the beach. It was a breathtaking view, the Pacific Ocean that is, it wasn't as blue as I had imagined but it was still very beautiful. I sat down in the sand and just took it all in, I could feel the waves of the Ocean moving through me. I realized in that moment what I was seeking, why I had left Ohio, I was seeking adventure. I was seeking freedom, freedom from things like flying on an airplane that scared me. That was 10 years ago when I took a leap into the unknown and boarded the plane to Los Angeles. There are times this place feels bittersweet, sometimes more bitter than sweet. There are many days where it feels like I'm on a roller-coaster ride that never stops but it's that thrill, that excitement, the unknown that keeps me here.
