A leap into the unknown India

Mid-semester exams are done. A strong need to freshen up by a well planned trip popped up in heart. Asking out every friend known began and well ended up with the acceptance of only one friend. All set, me and my friend no matter what are going out for a one day trip. Laptops and phones onn ,googling out and asking out the nearest best places for a one day trip. One such search results came out to be Kannur in Kerala, greenary filled with refreshing waterfalls and beautiful temples. Perfect , thats it! We are going to Kannur was confirmed. The next step we immediately took was to decide on our trip itinerary. We take a train from mangalore ( that's exactly where I stay) to Kannur directly, reachout the nearest bus stand and would be taking a bus to some unpronounceable village from where we would be trekking to the waterfall, and that's exactly our first place followed by few temples. The only trusted friend we both had in hand was the Google map which showed the journey from Kannur bus stand to the unknown waterfall village was an hour, that's it Soo perfect isn't it. So the plan is superb and we started as planned. Took the early morning train to kannur , a two hours journey and there we reached kannur at around 10 in the morning. As planned reached the bus stand. Here starts the real crazy fun. We definitely knew people of kannur spoke Malayalam ( one of the languages which I love to hear)but then never imagined to see only Malayalam writings everywhere in the city. The boards of the shops, the banners on the walls and most important the boards on the bus were all in unreadable, unguessable writings. But still people were around for help right? But then, who knew to speak Malayalam? Not me nor my Friend. Now we were fucked up totally. Tried out every dumb actions and acting skills and somehow managed to figure out which bus took us to the waterfall whose name we fought hard to pronounce everytime. Which on several attempts learnt by fortunately met English known malayali to be alkapuri falls. Seriously a small miss pronounce would lead us to a new unknown place. The bus started and hence the journey. At around 11 in the morning.Ya we took an hour to figure out. Enthusiasm hit up again as we are going to reach exactly at 12 or so in the hot sun to dive into cool water of alkapuri. But some wisemen did say that blind belief on gadgets specifically mobile and to be particular Google maps is troublesome sometimes. An hour passed and we aren't still even nearer to the village. The bus started to climb up a hill with twists and turns and humps. Time is 2pm and still we are in bus climbing up heights. Finally at 3pm we did reach the village. Again with all attempts of sign language we conversed with local people to ask about reaching the waterfall. A person with broken English directed us to the trek to the waterfall. We were exhausted tired but still confronting each other that "though we know the fact that we will not be able to go to other places since we must reach our college campus by 10pm , we are going to enjoy to the fullest in water, that's the spirit of we girls!!.Started the trek with such spirit. A few 100mts nearer to meet this beautiful waterfall a guesthouse was laid and two local men coming back from the peak ,stopped and warned us not to go ahead as there are creepy and strange people. Also moreover there wasn't any water in the falls. Fuck! We never ever, even for a second thought about the hot summer season. Bravo to us to have expected to see water in a waterfall during summer. There's this adventure in amusement parks called dropzone where you are lifted up and thrown down suddenly due to gravity. That's exactly what happened to our excitement and joy in heart. Dropped and drowned in water in that hot sun shining over our head. Ate icecream in the guest house to cool our burning heart and descended down safely travelled back the same journey and reached college. Our friends all ready to ask and hear about our trip but then they laughed out so hard that we are still teased and mocked and will continue to be for our great lifetime. Itseemed a waste and stupid travel for many. But the truth is a big NO.I felt and saw a whole new lifestyle of a different city. I just lived an entire day among unknown sweet people for the fullest. Learnt few words to converse in Malayalam. A very unique craze of people towards luck was experienced. By the word luck I meant ,we saw a number of lottery ticket sellers and a crowd of buyers who are proudly ready to spend money to try thier luck out. We ate tasty local food and shared some with a poor hungry man who slept on road. He did bless us heartfully to live happily ever. We met a group of bus drivers and conductors who with all thier time and patience tried to unpuzzle the language we spoke and helped us to reach out our destination. We did meet soulful local people who laughed along with us to our foolish mind to visit waterfall, and the two men who selflessly wished our safety. And a hill top guesthouse run by a man and his pregnant wife who gave us icecream and place to rest and enjoy the hilltop views. We dint see the beauty of the falls but we did see and lived a day in between pretty souls and we did live a day in a unknown place as a most cared and loved foreigner. And this taught me that travel is not just about visiting famous places of a city or country but then to live there , enjoy and embrace the beauty of culture, food and hearts of people. Thus ,this one day trip put a seed of wanderlust in my heart. Travel after that has become my soul and heart. I have turned to be a hodophile
