I didn't expect to find Brazil

When I met a travel agent who proposed a trip to Italy, I did not have idea of what I could find. Actually, I have never dreamed of about making an international travel... In fact, I could not suppose that an unexpected experience like this would be so amazing as it was... I visited Italy in 2017, after having some basic information about the travel itinerary. It would be a group of fifteen individuals, most of them women, one couple and a female tour guide who lead us from São Paulo, Brazil. I have not had large experience in international trips, but I faced the challenge with enthusiasm, wondering about what I could find in Europe... We flied with Alitalia (Economy Class), and, in spite of the bad commentaries I had heard about the company, it was an excellent fly, with kind flight attendants, a comfortable plane, good films and documentaries for entertainment, as well as tasteful meals, which included salads, pasta, meat and other delicacies. The group would tour Italy for eighteen days, starting in Milan and finishing in Rome. We stayed in excellent four stars hotels, places where I could find a comfort previously unknown, full of amenities like moisturizing lotions, sweet-smelling soaps, chocolates and furry slippers. The dominant atmosphere in the majority of the hotels was a mix of sophistication and sense of familiarity that is hard to find in good places. In this way, I had stunning surprises, as a gift offered by the hotel concierge in Naples, who knocked on the door in order to welcome me with delicious chocolates. In Firenze, another wonderful city, where I was absolutely enchanted, there was a balcony in my room with a view to a beautiful patio, where was a green area, a garden, chaises longes and some tables, so that people could have a talk while tasting a drink. All the hotels where I stayed had a touch of modernity allied to traditional characteristics of architecture, which only could improve the experience of lodging. Naturally, all the group present in this trip enjoyed as well. I visited, with the group and the tour guide, cities like Milan, Como, Verona, Padova, Venice, Pisa, Siena, Assisi, Capri, Naples, Pompeii and Rome. The transportation between cities was made by trains, idea that had been approved by all members of the excursion. In fact, visiting Italy by train is much more pleasant and accessible, fostering a complete experience for the traveller, who can enjoy the view, taste some snacks or even a meal, besides reaching the destinies in a shorter time. In my case, for example, I left Naples at 2 p.m. and arrived in Rome at 4 p.m., in a fast and charming journey. Lots of things can be told about this wonderful voyage: magnificent churches, like Milan Cathedral or the famous St. Francis of Assisi, with paintings and sculptures endowed with unique beauty; gorgeous landscapes, able to leave the more insensitive traveller mesmerized; delicious food, abundant and assorted, including diverse types of pasta (I have never seen so different varieties in all my life!), including stupenduous sauces, of the most varied origins and sorts. Still talking about food, I cannot forget to mention specialties as fish, soups, meat - I tasted a dish prepared with veal, pretty good -, seafood - Italians know how to prepare it, even octopus is considered to be excellent - and exotic recipes, as boar, a kind of sauvage pig. I did not have the opportunity of trying this last offer, but, who knows, in the future... Why not? I am certainly convinced that we do not need to have prejudices against anything (mainly food), certainty that this trip around Italy makes me sure. Another thing that I could not forget about this trip is concerning the extreme care devoted to historical places. It is astonishing how much valuable is the cultural patrimony for Italians. Population and authorities recognize the importance of the artistic legacy present all over the country and show interest in preserving architecture and works of art. Despite the strong pressure of massive tourism, a phenomenon that can be extremely harmful, there is consciousness about the necessity of conciliating leisure and preservation, pleasure and respect, in order to foment a healthier tourism, capable of provide unforgettable experiences without any damages to natural and cultural heritage. In fact, I would like to comment more and more about this unique experience in my life, but I need to conclude. Eighteen days in Italy are not sufficient to know the country, but they could give an impression about what the cities are, motivating anyone to return. I felt invited to a new journey, as it was impossible to enjoy Italy completely in a fortnight... How could I visit everywhere? I have to come back to Rome, to visit the Vatican again, as I did not have time to see all the rooms... Yes, I visited the Pantheon, the Sistine Chapel, the Colosseum... How delightful it was... But there is much more to see, and I felt a bit frustrated as I did not see places like Piazza di Spagna, St. Angel"s Castle and the baroque part of the city... What can I say? That this travel was an inspiration for future trips, when I would thoroughly explore the country. Impossible not to think about Naples and the spots that I did not visit - Caserta Palace, for example - or dream about regions like Sicily, considered to be a must-see for any traveller. To sum up, I sincerely wish that these astounding impressions can be followed by many and many better experiences in the future, all over the world.
