After my last exams in the university, I was lucky to be among the first shortlisted students the university approved to register for the one year National Youth Service Corps(NYSC). I found myself lucky actually I wasn't planning on going with the first batch, I just had to register and pospond every other thing I had in mind until after the one year services. I went to the cyber and picked some states of choice, I choose gombe state as my first choice for North region, Ondo state for the west and Akwa-ibom for south and IMO for east. All my life has been over there in the southen part of the country where we have rivers, lakes and swamppy areas around. Been born and raised in the south, I have no ideas about rocks, hills and mountains, I only read and watch them on the television When the posting letters where out online, a friend of mine called and asked me to go check where I am posted, I was kind of anxious because I wanted them to post me back to where I am used to, the south. I had to dress immediately to the cafe I have my details to the lady at the cafe to check where I have been posted for my one year service. After Ten minutes, she said "congratulations you have been posted to Ondo state". I just replied thank you. On my way home I started to think within me, I have never been to the west before, how will I understand their language, what if I'm sent to teach or any job that will require communicating with people who don't really speak English. It was about five days for me to report to the NYSC camp at Ikare-akoko of Ondo state. On the fourth night I took my phone, logged on to google and started asking questions, at a point I discovered Ondo state will be fun and educating. I was happy because I was going to learn new things. What caught my attention was the high mountain I saw while searching information about Ondo. It was time for me to leave for Ondo, with the information I have gather I knew the journey was going to drag me for six hours by land. I was prepared and happy, bought enough snacks for myself, because I left the house very early I even forgot to take my breakfast. When I got to the car park, I told the driver I want to seat at the front so I can feed my eyes. The driver granted my request. We started the journey I was looking out for the mountains but couldn't find any I asked the driver, where are the mountains?. I was told that Ondo state is surrounded with mountains, the driver smiled and said, it seems like you are going to Ondo for the first time. I replied yes sir I am a Corp member posted to Ondo and this is my first time crossing south to west. The driver told me, when we get to Ondo you will see what you are looking for. I was calm and still anxious to see some might stones. About 45 minutes drive, the driver tapped me and said we are approaching the Akoko mountain pointing to the front. When I looked, I saw might stones, as if they where arranged in ascending order. I couldn't stop looking at these stones. I mean, I told the driver to stop for a while let me take some photos of the mountain, the driver agree. When he stopped, I went down to see how high the mountain was. I was really amazing, they where so arranged that it got me asking the driver who arranged these stones like this, the driver smiled and told me this mountain has been here for more than two thousand years, mountain are naturally they exist naturally nobody arranged the stones that way he said. I looked and was lost then he tapped me on my shoulder, let's go we still have one hour left to your destination. I can't stop imagining how beautiful mountains can be and exist naturally.
