I have worked for about a year when i got a nod to go on 3 weeks vacation. It was in Lagos, Nigeria, the beautiful city where i was born. I was 18 years old. I lived with my parents and i was the only boy with two older sisters. If my first job was so intriguing, then taking this trip should be heartwarming or at least a good experience for me. That was the thinking in my mind when i boarded the train from Lagos to Kaduna State. I have an uncle who lives there. He had come to visit my mum thrice in Lagos and we developed a good rapport, i have never been to Kaduna. BUT i kept telling him that i would come to see you someday. The last time he came, that was six months before i decided to go to Kaduna; he gave me all the details of how to see him in Kaduna. I wrote everything in my diary. My parents are not the very strict kinds of parents and we live a free range system at home. Everyone is allowed to go out, so long as you will return at the time you promised to come back home. So, it wasn't difficult to convince them to let this teenager go on the long journey all alone. A distance of more than 800 kilometers from Lagos to Kaduna. I boarded at 12 noon in Lagos and i knew that the journey will end in Kaduna at 4pm the next day. I had a big brown bag. Inside the bag, was a blanket to cheat cold at night. i have a train ticket to and fro Kaduna and i have some money to buy a few snacks whenever the train stops at Abeokuta, Ibadan, Ilorin and Minna, the four cities which are the main train stations where more people will board the train to Kaduna and some folks would disembark.
