Kia Ora, It all started when I arrived at the airport of Auckland International. I already heard about the Maori Culture, but the Haka they performed at the airport, made me more interested in their culture. So when I entered New Zealand soil, I started doing research on the Maoris. I came across a lot of nice features which I wantes to know everything about. So first step was visiting a rugby match between the All Blacks and Australia. The majority of the All Blacks team is originally a Maori. Then they did this furious Haka before the match to intimidate the opponent. After they won the match I told my Argentinian friend that I wanted to know more about this ethnicity. So I looked up places where they live and where they still kept their values. Deep in the woods of New Zealand you have a lot of Maori places where you can see traditional dances, taste their food and learn about the way they greet each other. Furthermore I learned about the fact that the Maoris are the indigineous people and that the English entered the country after a battle against the Maoris. The most funny thing about Maoris is the fact that they are big built human beings. They are muscled, tall and just big. What I noticed sometimes is that people are afraid to talk to them as they appear dangerous according to those people. They have these tattoos en they walk in a certain way which can be scary. For me personally it wasn't like that. I was born and raised in Amsterdam but I am 100% Moroccan. The moroccans including myself are very open to new cultures and our hospitality is huge. Adding to that, we are not afraid that quikly and especially if the people are one of the nicest people in the world. I have travelled a lot, but the people of the Maori Tribe are the nicest people I have ever met. They are very respectful and they love to joke around. I have made several Maori friends and I even was invited to a Muslim Maori household, where I prayed together with them and ate and drank a lot. The Maori people are by the way one of the best dancers I have seen in the world. Their moves are great and i loved it. I stayed in New Zealand for 5 months and I really miss those nice and sunny days there. It's defenitely a country I am going back to one day, because of the Maoris and of course because of the magical nature, food and activities. Aotearoa, The land of the long white cloud Nga mihi mo nga mea katoa ❤
