I didn't expect to find Thailand

Last summer my parents and I embarked upon a trip to Thailand. We usually plan our own trip and go with the flow once we arrive somewhere and visit places which we like or feel like visiting. For the first time we had selected the tour package thing so as to experience how that feels. We chose the Bangkok Pattaya package. Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand and we really wanted to see that. I am from Varanasi, India which is where Lord Buddha did his first sermon after getting enlightenment. We had heard about Bangkok’s stupas so we were quite excited to see that. Unfortunately it was not covered in our tour package but we were like we really need to see that and thank god we did because it was so beautiful and majestic. We saw the local travel handbook in the hotel lobby and that’s where our eyes laid on to Ayutthaya. Ayutthaya or Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya was the old capital city of Siam or Thailand. in the olden times it was one of the largest cities and known as Venice of the east. It was destroyed by the Burmese army in 1767. The ruins of this old city have been preserved in form of a historical park and deemed a UNESCO world heritage site. This city is 64 KMs north of Bangkok. We were quite fascinated by this city and wanted to visit it. This was not included in our tour package so we decided to shell out a little money to visit this historic city. During the ride to Ayutthaya we were a little sceptical about the city. As we reached the city we realised that we had done the right thing by coming here. It is the perfect city for history lovers and people who seeking out something new. It was a quiet and beautiful city, a total contrast to Bangkok which has become crowded due to commercialisation. Ayutthaya had less tourists and it was so peaceful. First we visited a Buddha temple which had a very big Buddha; the whole temple was so beautiful. Then we proceeded towards the historic park. The historic park is so well preserved that it actually felt that we were transported to the old Siam. We saw several statues, pillars and mounds which showed the layout of the old city. There was a Buddha head struck in the tree. The best thing I liked about Thailand was that whenever we saw any statue of Buddha we had to show respect and not treat it like a token for capturing photos. The whole historic site was so magnificent. Ayutthaya city was a peaceful and scenic city. It was beautiful escape from the rush and crowd of the current capital city. It was like a picturesque town with less population and surrounded by history. There were several small temples and parks in the city. It was so green with trees and plants surrounding it. While in the city we saw people riding bicycles, hiking or walking, just enjoying the peaceful life. It’s a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. We stayed in Ayutthaya for one day and savoured the whole time. Time spent there made me realise that hidden gems which aren’t advertised much are magnificent in their own way. We ate Thai delicacies and they were delicious and different. During the ride we listened to Thai music which can be described as serene, it was so calm. This is the reason traveling appeals me so much, it makes me experience new things and broadens my mind. It makes me see new things and find joy from unexpected plans. Traveling is going with the flow and enjoying the time spent there. If you ever go to Thailand be sure to check Ayutthaya and I’m sure you’ll ensure its peaceful aura like I did.
