A normal morning for me started at 9:00 in Mexico City. It had been two months since I had arrived there far from the Colombian Caribbean where I grew up. Getting used to meals was very easy with such delicious and varied Mexican recipes. But sometimes I missed the local Colombian flavor. That Sunday I woke up a little later than usual and decided to go to a Colombian restaurant for the first time. I had heard among my coworkers that the best place for this was on Calle Medellín in Colonia Roma. I decided to take an Uber because I had little cash to get to the restaurant that I had seen on the internet and where they accepted cards as a means of payment. Upon arriving at the Colombian restaurant I felt the connection with my country in a general way. Colombia is a very varied country with different accents, types of food and music. I recognized the products that had accompanied me from my childhood on a shelf. The decoration was of pictures of Colombian landscapes, the music was vallenato and Caribbean rhythms. I chose to eat a "bandeja paisa", a delicious dish from a different region than mine. The food was realy good. It is a very caloric dish composed of beans, rice, avocado, meat, sausage, egg, ripe banana, among other ingredients. The time has come to pay and I will continue to know this part of the city. I decided to pay by credit card, but to my surprise it was canceled and I had to hand over what little cash I had and leave as a guarantee my Colombian ID that I didn't need at all until I returned to Colombia. I left the restaurant around 5pm with no cash, hoping to return home on Uber. So I decided to walk around the neighborhood a bit. Wide streets with street vendors everywhere under big trees. There was a lot of noise despite it being Sunday so I went into a supermarket to pass the time. When it was almost late I decided to ask for the Uber to go home and to my surprise it had also just been canceled. I had no money to back home. The city at night was cold and my sense of security gradually diminished. The supermarket had already closed. Seeing that there were few people and street vendors, I decided to go to an ATM for security and think what to do. I decided to use a dating app to see the people around me. I had talked to some people but now I needed to go home and I contacted some strangers to see how they could help me since I knew few people in the city. It took me about an hour to talk to different types of people and I had to get the conversation flowing beyond an appointment. I explained my situation to them after some greetings but nothing flowed towards what I wanted: to go home. I was trying to gain trust with a pleasant conversation. I ended up talking to a boy from Guadalajara and the conversation finally flowed. He understood what happened and offered to take me home. I was hesitant but decided to agree. He stressed that the place was not so safe. My decision was to trust a stranger far from my country. I saw his location across the avenue where he was waiting for me in a black automobile. He got a bit desperate because I was slow to find him, maybe he felt the same way I did when dealing with a stranger. He was a very nice guy with whom I talked about what had happened. He said that maybe when he was in Colombia someone could help him too. He stressed that he believed in good karma and so it was. We planned to meet another day but we never saw each other again. I trust that good karma will come back to him.
