Bagging it all

A leap into the unknown France

The art of adapting can be quite a journey in itself. Strolling along the streets of Paris in the wee hours of morning was an enthralling yet terrifying experience. The rains decided to get to work in the latter part of December! My wheels were not having the best time on these pebbled alleys. Rumors of the yellow vest protesters disrupting daily life didn't aid my anxiety and the biting cold was no ally either. What a splendid time to visit Europe! Wait! Did I just glimpse some fluorescence? My carriers seemed perturbed. That just added to my misery. Being dragged along with increasing hurry I was loosing balance and tripping. Moulin Rouge..did I get that right? Some cabaret plans would be delightful. The shops around here look questionable though. Do my carriers know what they are in for? Whats with that loud ruckus across the street. I can contain my curiosity, lets head in the opposite direction. Ah! Warmth at last. Well, Indians at the reception. That's a comforting sight (to see abroad). Thus goes the conversation. 'Be careful..pickpockets..trains aren't running as frequently due to the protests.' Nice chaps. Well, nothing new for my carriers I know. Used to figuring out a way to their destination. And man can they talk! They have no need for knowing the language, they generally rely on hand gestures, apps and their knack for being street smart. I guess that's the new mantra of travel. Nuclear traveling (you know like nuclear families). Maybe now travel companies should focus on making travelers independent. What a great business idea! They have a lot lined up for this trip. I eavesdropped you see. They are heading to Reims tomorrow for a champagne tour. With the uncertain nature of services now I wonder how they'll make it. Then Disneyland the next day and finally the Louvre and Eiffel. These guys are the certified 'jugaad' public. With no trains running from the assigned stations, cab fares sky high and devoid of bus tickets they still managed to cover everything on their itinerary. Humans function funny. I need my smooth roads, I need to be carried up and down a flight of stairs. These guys just wing it. I mean I don't even like being stored in a new place and look at them wandering around in such a vague political climate. How much do they feel the impact of this rivalry that the protesters are having with their government? They were out till 4 am on the night they visited Disneyland. Apparently the fireworks over the castle were worth the inconvenience. Places may be unknown but can be made your own. Look at them now. Absolutely at home in Paris. They've walked for hours without a complain, traveled on the local buses ticket-less, changed multiple means of transport to get to their destinations and basically had a ball doing it all. They've braved the rain, cold, the foreign language and there's no stopping them. And guess what! We're now headed to Italy. Fingers crossed the Government and its people are on good terms.
