Biting someone is it tradition in South Korea?

I didn't expect to find Korea South

In 2016 for training program I had gone to Seoul,Korea.My story was little bit unexpected. I was walking on the road in Seoul, I could not find the place where I must go and I was kinda lost. Then I checked my around and there were not much people just some youngsters and I asked them something in English they said we dont know then I tried to search another people. And I saw tree old men speaking each other.I asked them and said I know English.One of them told me that he knows English and I asked him to give me direction to reach my place.He told me to go from the side and explained how I can go to my hotel. Then I said thanks to him and I tried to shake his hand and he shaked my hand but suddenly he bit off my hand at once I was shocked and I walked away from them,I saw them they were laughing so much. I couldnt understand why he bit my hand. I asked some of my friend they told me there is no reason but dont try to shake someone's hand if they reach forth to you you can shake but you mustn't it first. After meanwhile I was walking around the city and I talked with one seller and he reached forth his hand and and I give my hand too then he bit me off again. Still I have no idea about it why they are biting people?
