After 17 years of travelling around the world, I decided to retire from jumping from one country to another. But not before I experience my last adventure. I have decided to announce to all my family and friends; and now to the world that this would, possibly be my last place to be before I chose to go back to my hometown in Brazil. It might be just one of athletes announcements where they say it would be their last game or last championship, but in fact they cannot leave their passion as easy as they think... Anyway it might be my last adventure or not, but the fact is I am living in West Papua now. My whole life of adventures I have been asked the same question over and over, no matter where I was: "Where is your favorite place?". I honestly couldn't answer that question, just because all the places I have been to, considered by many as paradise , are not paradise anymore once you are there and living the day to day life. Maldives, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Thailand, Bahamas were some of those places people chose for their vacation or honeymoon, having in mind paradise. Now paradise for me is a place where man had as little interference as possible, a place where the natural habitat still remains almost virgin, where wild life still lives freely with over 90% of their natural habitat, or marine life continues as radiant as they were 20 or 30 years ago. Welcome to Raja Ampat! Most probably many of you have no idea where this paradise could even be. Well Raja Ampat, is an archipelago off West Papua in Indonesia. West Papua is part of New Guinea island, and it shares the island with another country Papua New Guinea, paradise for scuba divers where it has been counted the largest amount of species of fish in only one dive, or paradise for bird lovers where they can have the rare encounter with different birds of paradise and many others. The papuans are the people who indiscutible evolved the most in a period of only 50 years. Some of the tribes pass from cannibalism to smartphones in a period of less than 5 decades! Still some believe that some tribes have never been in contact with a white man yet! Here in West Papua you will find beautiful and pristine waters, an amazing marine life with unbelievable health corals, every island with an untouched jungle. However is our task to protect those places, overtourism have killed places and this is a place still remains pristine, so that's how it supposed to continue. The main fight here is about the increasing number of dive liveaboards that come to the area bringing enormous impact to the ecosystem, please help us to denunce illegal operations and if you are coming to Raja Ampat don't forget to check if the company, resort or homestay is part of the marine park efforts to keep Raja Ampat as an untouched paradise!
