My love for travel began at an early age. From being born overseas to Army parents, my need for wanderlust began. As a child, my family and I globe trotted from the US to various countries in Europe. My sister and I were exposed to beautiful architecture, exotic foods, and people from all over the world. Those experiences have shaped me into the person I am today. As I aged, travel slowed down with college, getting married and starting a family, and work. I longed for the days where I was completely immersed in a faraway land, exploring the streets, and enjoying the sights. At the end of 2018, I was selected to travel to various sites over the US for my job. I was elated to be able to further my career, but it also meant that I was able to get back to my first love. Over the next year I traveled all over the US, visiting some cities multiple times. For most of my trips, I solo traveled. Traveling solo allowed me to discover the person who I thought was lost. I had become so caught up in being a wife, mom, friend, sister, daughter, etc., that I forgot about who I was and who I wanted to be. On one trip to West Palm Beach, I decided to go for a stroll on the beach. The smell of the seaweed, the warmth of the sun, and the coolness of the water were the only thing that mattered in that moment. I could stay in the calmness of the crashing waves forever. The time that I spent at the beach that day I learned something. I learned that I could let go of the need for constant perfection. That everything is going to be ok, that I could learn how to balance who I wanted to be with the other roles I play. Being alone that one day on the beach was so incredibly freeing. I didn’t have to worry about anyone but myself. On the beach, I didn’t expect to find the person that I wanted to be. The person who was able to share her passion for travel with the world, and still become her best self. That day at the beach changed my life, and now I will never be the same. Sometimes all you need is a day at the beach to put your whole life in perspective.
