“Will we ever get back home today?” After a relaxing afternoon at the pristine beach of Caló Des Moro, we were going to take a bus home we took on our way here, but it was Sunday and at that hour already there was no bus anymore. To make matters worse, my phone ran out of battery and she didn’t have data on her phone. Frustrated and hungry, since all we ate the entire day was some chips and salt water, we started walking in hopes that maybe we could find a supermarket at least... only to find out half an hour later we were still walking on a dirt road out of nowhere under the scorching Spanish sun. It started to feel as if we were walking el Camino de Santiago. Just when we were getting scared we might not even be able to make it home by the end of the day, the friendly uncle-like driver of the last bus of three that took us to the beach was passing by and kindly stopped for us even though it was not a normal stop. The driver and I had talked in the morning for a few minutes so he recognized us. As we hopped on the bus, he was sincerely worried about us and even more so as he told us the bus to take us home already had stopped operating for the day. “Pues, lo que podemos hacer es...” He said he would drop us at a bus stop where he would finish work in two hours so that we could have something to eat at a restaurant around there and wait for him to take us home with his private car. Upon the offer, to be truthful, Yepum and I looked at each other to share silence of doubts as this Spanish tio was being unnecessarily too nice to us. Still, we decided to trust our intuition that all of his kindness was coming from a genuine place and follow what he told us to do. What we ended up doing? Having a spectacular dinner and saving more than €40 which we could have paid for an actual taxi had we declined the tio’s kindness. Remember to have a little chat with strangers. Angels exist. Learn the language. Your intuition is almost always right. You will always find a way back home, so relax!
