Christmas had come and gone, friends and family relations were on the verge of returning to their base in the various cities they resided, having spent more than two weeks at the countryside. My family wasn't exempted although, we planned our trip to the city a week after most families had returned. Prequel to our trip to the city, our brand new car was fully loaded with loads of fruits and vegetables harvested in our rural community as well as our luggage. During our trip, barely less than two hours away from our kickoff point, our car developed a fault and jerked back and front later, it continued moving. We drove about 170 kilometers and it repeated the jerk motion and continued afterwards. We fixed the car following the second jerk and continued our trip. Fortunately, we crossed a bridge in a dangerous crime spot along the road then our fan belt cut so suddenly. Obviously, that was the beginning of the worst moment we were to face from the trip. Again, we fixed the car but this time had to charter a bike to the nearest mechanic workshop to buy another fan belt and paid for the expenses incurred in inviting the mechanic to replace another fan belt and check other vital areas of the car. We pondered and wondered why a new car would develop fault on a road trip with no iota of signs from home prior to the commencement of our journey. The day was running to dusk and we were still on the road very far from our kickoff point and destination. We had only covered 290 kilometers out of a 600 kilometers road trip. Fruits gotten from our countryside which we had planned to distribute to our neighbours were all consumed on transit, vegetables started to dry up the following day. Day 2 of the trip was more devastating as we had already exhausted all our funds with no food nor cash with us. We pleaded for help from other travellers as our car stopped along the road with no houses on either sides of the road. Luckily, a traveller saw our car plate number which had a state where his wife grew up in according to him, decided to stop and came to our help. He tolled our car to his house, welcomed us and fed my family. We passed the night pacifically and became fully set to face the road the next day. Our helper gave my family some money and fixed our car from his company's mechanic. We covered an additional 180 kilometers making it 470 kilometers in total on the third day of our trip with no fault from our car. Our car was converted to a cab during the long trip to raise more funds for our trip. We got some additional cash and bought more food and fruits along the way. Finally, we reached our destination on the third day of our trip at about 22:00 GMT (+1). We got a call from a family member who rode the car prequel to our road trip on how he drove recklessly and almost got the car burnt due to his recklessness. Since the trip, I have consistently checked my car oil gauge and other areas, prepare myself psychologically, financially before embarking on any trip.
