Exotic moving

When you are a kid and your parents constantly move from a city to another, it is obvious that you are going to discover new cultures and new people. Keeping that in mind and thinking back to 2006, when my father got transferred from a state called Rio Grande do Sul - located in the south of Brazil – to a state called Pará – located in the north – because he is from the army, I could not imagine what was waiting for me there. When we got there the weather instantly showed up very hot and the first days were nothing but extremely sunny. From the moment I stepped into Altamira, the new exotic city, for the first time I already knew my time there would give me unforgettable memories. Let’s start talking about the culture. Everything was different, from the food to the music playing there. I grew up listening to rock and alternative songs and in Altamira I met a style called “brega”, composed by funky melodies and melodramatic lyrics and it was all I listened to while living there. The first two months we lived in a building until we were moved to a condominium destined to military only and my house’s view was the Amazon Rainforest! Of course it was pretty distant but, still, a lot of exotic animals would show up in front of my house everyday. I could ride my bike by the end of the afternoon and suddenly see toucans and blue and red macaws flying above me. Once I got used to the flora and the fauna my parents took me to an event called Indigenous Games Of Pará. It consisted of groups of Indians from the Amazon Rainforest competing with each other in tests that evolved their lifestyle and usual activities. For example, in one day they had do run carrying big wood pieces on their back to prove how strong they are while in another one all they had to do was practice archery. I also saw the native women doing tattoos symbolizing the transition between the infant phase to the adult one. The whole event occurred during one week. One of the coolest things about it was being able to talk to the Indians and learn more about their history. The amount of things I learnt during the two years living in Altamira is immeasurable! Diving deep into new cultures and willing to discover different lifestyles is a great form to increase the inner self. The fact that every place we travel to can give us specific and rich experiences should be enough to boost the excitement and the disposition to learn more every moment. The best part about travelling to different cities definitely is the feeling that every place we go we get to know a new person, their history and their preferences. Also, the excitement to taste new foods, to swim in distinct beaches, to walk downtown and listen to the cacophony around is one of the best ways to get connected with the world and relax while enjoying the blessing of being alive.
