First time on the beach.

A leap into the unknown Brazil

It was a hot summer day. Suddenly my aunt comes to me with some uplifting news: "Felipe! Get ready! We're going to the beach today." I was maybe ten or eleven years old at the time, and I remember getting very excited to hear that, because that would be the first time I'd see the sea. A few minutes later we were leaving. Where to? The town of Prado, the closest coastal town. I loved to hit the road, to watch the things around as I travel. I remember reading the signs of the shops and everything I saw. I also remember seeing my uncle putting on his sunglasses and finding it very funny. I couldn't help myself but keep asking my aunt "what's the sea like?" and "are we there yet?" There was this whale-shaped arch on the way and it was just beautiful. But after a long wait, we arrived. We had some trouble to find a parking spot and it was very hot, but none of this mattered, because I was about to finally see something unknown to me until then: the beach. Prado was a very different, cute little town. Charming, with its colorful little houses. The people were very receptive and the food was pretty good. But finally it was time to go down to the beach. Seeing the sea for the first time, I was a little confused about the sea and the horizon thing. I was also a bit nervous. I didn't know if the water was too cold, or if it was too deep or if the waves were too strong... During the first minutes I just sat there on the sand watching the waves destroy my sandcastles. I was watching "from a safe distance". Then I decided to risk a little and go into the water. I would go and then run when I saw the waves. The water was pretty good, not cold, just... good. When my aunt decided to go into the water she taught me how to jump when the wave came to us. I missed it a couple of times and ended swallowing a little bit of seawater in the process, but it was worth it! (Spoiler alert: the taste is horrible! 0/10, don't recommend it.) We walked on the beach for a while, I remember pointing to the distant boats... The ice cream was delicious. I was very happy, "the sea experience" was way cooler than I thought it would be (although I didn't like having to deal with the sand later!). The sun was almost setting and it was time to go home. My day at the beach was a tremendous success.
