Kinshasa I’ve Always Thought And Compared Myself To A Pretty Butterfly. That Would One Day Flap Her Wings And Fly Away Through The Wind, Floating In The Air Going Wherever The Sky Was Blue! But that was before I knew that in order to become a butterfly, the caterpillar goes through a wonderful transformation that demands isolation and change to fully become one. Born in Kinshasa, I had an amazing childhood. The few years I’ve spent there were the most time of my life , coming from a great family , my father worked in the government My sister and I went to a private school were I remember having maids make breakfast in the morning getting me dress while the driver would be waiting in the driveway. Everything was great until war happened to a country next to us...that’s when my parents decide to leave to another country for a better and safe environment. Luckily, we was fortunate enough to remove ourselves and travelled to a city near us by boat. Chapter 2 Here we are on the boat leaving Kinshasa, I can’t remember how long the ride was but I remember the view! The bright colour of the sea had me hypnotized by its beauty! Staring at the sea , I started wondering where we was going. It wasn’t long until we had arrived to the airport and was boarding the plane! To where you would ask? I was on my way to the Ivory Coast for a few weeks! Chapter 3 Abidjan. I loved the food and enjoyed learning how to dance their traditional dance called “Le Mapuka” very energetic and fun This is where I went to the beach for the first time in my life! It was a long vacation through countries I’ve never even thought existed . I got introduced to a shawarma there for the first time in my life, some parts of that country is Muslim they can cook the best food and host you with such loving meals . After spending two weeks there, my mother tells us we are leaving again ... And this time , we were on our way to... You wouldn’t guess it , it was a country out of the continent! We was heading to Paris. Chapter 4 I can’t believe I am in Paris ! The little black girl I was in a white white country! I started looking at life totally differently! I mean how big is the world? I’ve met so many beautiful people seen different cultures . Now we was on our way to visit the Eiffel Tower to spend time with a family friend who brought her children to entertain us,I don’t remember them unfortunately because I was busy loving the baguettes fresh served as appetizer and few cupcakes for us! Chapter 5 New York Can you believe that I’m here ? Getting to New York we was welcome by a guide who helped to carry our luggages to the shuttle bus, followed by our hotel. Looking back, my mother chose to stay at the Trump Hotel in Manhattan where I was definitely sure it was our last stop .. it had to be because the room service, the food the hallways elevators with gold ramps the ambiance was just right and honestly I had never had a burger until I got to New York so I told my mother we should make it our home . Chapter 6 I Didn’t Expect! To my surprise, all the fun was cut short when one morning room service called to announce our driver had arrived ! But “mom” I said, you said this was our last stop we agreed that we all love this place! She smiles and reminds me that it only going to get better when we arrive in Canada and that the whole time it was our destination she kept it from us because we would have never stop questioning where is Canada ? When are we arriving? Chapter 7 Montreal was the most Welcoming City I’ve ever seen! The ymca had various activities for my sister and I. Along with watching people ice skating for the first time in my life. This is my home now , & I have never left the since 1998.
