“The Dharamshala International Film Festival is my favourite film festival in India because there are no frills attached to it. It is purely about watching films and meeting people… there are opportunities to make real contact. This aspect makes it a really special and unique festivajil." Says Adil Hussain, Actor, Mukti Bhawan(2017). The 9th edition of Dharamshala International Film Festival concluded on 10th of November,2019. The festival saw a range of independent filmmakers from countries like Spain, Japan, Tibet, Netherlands showcasing their work. Festival Directors Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam's vision of this enigmatic festival was to give the local community a platform for good alternative cinema. Ritu and Tenzing, who also happen to be Dharamshala Residents couldn't be more happier as DIFF has become one of India's leading Independent Film festivals in a matter of 5 years drawing audiences all over the world. Arts is the only cinema hall in the whole of Dharam‐ sala; it did not stop the folks from attending it given the bad weather. The highlights of the place were the auditorium 3 balcony and the momo shop just opposite which served authentic mutton thupka and chicken momos. The venue was a beautiful 30 min uphill walk from Mcleodganj which made the people crave for the delicacies even more. Actors, filmmakers, Storytellers, producers were a conversation away. The festival catching the wind of the ambiguous films hence charging the audience for the schedule only. The air had a little bit of protest in it from the Independent Tibetan Student Council. Merchs were sold awaring people of the whole Tibet-China struggle. Light A Candle showed support to the cause.
