A leap into the unknown USA

Shares

Last Tuesday, while traveling back from delivering a keynote address at a National women's conference, I received a call informing me that my role at a leading financial services company had been eliminated. I have been an executive in Financial Services for more than 15 years. I have been exceptionally fortunate to lead amazing teams, learn new skills and literally influence home buying in America through policies, products and processes. In one two minute call, I felt the rug pull from beneath me, my identity erased and my world collapse. Today, a week later, I am excited and hopeful for my next chapter and the next opportunity to come. Ok, I admit, there still are moments of complete panic but between us, let's just call that exhilaration, To explain, I was born in Brooklyn, NY and I am a first generation college graduate who put herself through business school earning an MBA with honors. I hold two patents for innovation and I teach as an adjunct professor. At my core, I am resilient and born to "bounce". My life philosophy has been closely aligned with Randy Pausch's "Last Lecture". If you are not familiar, one of the key tenets is being very clear regarding where you stand on the greatest life debate. "At some point in life, you need to be very clear on where you stand in the great Tigger and Eeyore debate". I have been and will always be a proud Tigger. I prefer to be surrounded by positive people who see the opportunity in every problem and beauty where others only see despair. Up until last week, I thought my travel story was a very defined path tied to board meetings, presentations and daily ROI reviews. In just one short week, I realize my travel story is so much more and I am ready to write my encore chapter. My story is one of inspiration, hope, joy and adventure which is why I am ready to embrace a "Leap into the unknown". Every adventure always has a challenge, goal and learnings. I embrace the unknown, search for the tips and nuggets of gold and believe that every human being has purpose and value. I would welcome the opportunity to bring my perspective to World Nomads and continue my journey as a lifelong learner and travel writer. As Dr. Seuss said "Today is your day, your'e off to great places, off and away". Thank you for your time and consideration. Julie Lane
