Get up we are here, the voice of my sister dashed into my ear, and thrill rushed through my veins the moment, I gazed out from the aeroplane window and realised that we have landed in Indonesia. One week holiday with 20 people was slightly daunting for an introvert like me, but little did I knew I would make a peculiar connection with a stranger. Morning of 17th September, my 5th day, I experienced the best 4 days with my friends and family. But on that day, I desired to go on a ride alone, the vacation tradition that I follow, every time I go on vacations. I needed some time alone with my book laying on the sand, by the beach reading my book. So, I hired a bike from my hotel and, I ventured onto the unknown streets of Bali, riding my way alongside Kuta Beach. Being one of the most crowded beaches in Bali, firstly I decided not to stay but after looking at the waves, and the bright sun shining on me I stayed. After a little bit of looking, I finally found a space. The second I lay down on the sand, with my book in my hand, an old woman came closer to me and took my place. I looked at her with an odd smile on my face, and she looked at me blankly. Initially, I felt I should go away as I like to be alone while I am reading, so I got up and the moment I was about to leave, she stared at me and directed me to stay, as if she wanted me to stay. This Time I had a proper view of her face, she had big black eyes which were full of sorrow in some way, and her small nose complimented her big eyes. She was very pretty in her own unique way. Looking at her face, I couldn't say no, so I stayed. We both were sitting in complete silence, no one said any word for the first few minutes, and then I encountered; she is not a talkative person. The only time, We shared a moment when I offered her some chocolates I had in my bag, she took one and smiled at me. It was getting dark and everyone was leaving the beach, so I went back to the hotel, before leaving I said bye to her without any words and left. On 18th December Next day at the same time, I left the hotel and went to the beach, and found her at the same place with a little empty space beside her left for me. I came closer to her and sat right next to her we looked at each other and greeted each other. I started reading my book and she, as usual, was looking at the ocean and waves whole time with a perpetual smile on her face. After a while, when I took my break she offered me some 'Rambutan', Which is a popular Indonesian fruit. I took a few and thanked her. The whole time she wanted to give it to me but she didn't want to intrude my reading and that was the most beautiful thing I have found with a stranger. After eating that, I went back to the hotel saying bye to her on my way back. On 19th December my last day in Bali, I had a late-night flight back to India. I knew today I won't have enough time so I left early towards the beach when I reached the same spot this time she was not there. I sat there and eagerly waited for her to come. After one hour she came and sat next to me quietly she asked no question about me being early, and I was not surprised. Today she was holding a picture of her and her husband. I glanced at the picture and then at her, I held her hands calmly, tears fell down my eyes and I had no words to speak, and for the first time, I appreciated this Remarkable silence between us.
