On the 4th of March 2019, i arrived in Takeo province, Southern Cambodia to teach English for three months at a school called the hope agencey. My placement finished on the 31st of May, and between my start date and then, I was teaching three different classes and had one private 1 to 1 lesson. The ages my of students varied between 5 to 16. I Planned all of my lessons in advance, tailored then specifically to the requirements and standards of my students, and ensured that they were always up to speed. This was my first time in south east Asia alone, and was also my first time living in communal accomedation with people I didn't know, aswell as a first time leaving home for a long period of time. I went to Cambodia with a NGO (non government organisation) called original volounteers. My placement was unpaid. But i firmly believe that my experience, growth & development and all round time was the payment for this experience. It was a long one, and a new one too so I believe I was well paid. During my three months teaching in Cambodia, i was apart of food Bank projects, and got to see another side of the world. Meeting difereent people from all over the world, working alongside these people aswell as helping a critically struggling community so far from home was well and truly rewarding. Throughout this trip, I encountered numerous struggles, and even contemplated leaving the placement at some points. However, I'm glad I didn't, because I became apart of a warm, and caring community, and it was a pleasure to have directly been involved with helping them. This was a unique experience, especially for a 20 year old at the time, coming from Hitchin, Hertfordshire in the UK. I ended up travelling a large amount of Cambodia during my stay; I visited Phnom Penh (the capital city) numerous times, I also went for regular weekend breaks away at the coastal town of Kampot. Aswell as visiting the great Angkor watt in Siem Reap I even got a chance to spend a night in the casino capital of Cambodia, Sihanokville, before travelling to Koh rong Island, which is a small boat ride away from Sihanokville. After I finished my placement in Cambodia, I crossed the border into Vietnam, my entry point was Ho Chi Minh city, what was once called Saigon. Vietnam was an entirely different experience. I wasnt in the company of my teaching friends, and was once again travelling solo. Starting off down south, within a fortnight I managed to travel the full length of Vietnam. I went to the beautiful small town of hoi ann, for five nights, and from there took a domestic flight into Hanoi the capital city. Hanoi was busy. Luckily I had the chance to see Nimh binh which is close to Hanoi, and it's mountainous ranges and sunset boat rides down the rivers were absolutely amazing. It was overwhelming and it was a brilliant place to wind down my time in South wast Asia.
