As everyone know India is famous for its monsoon. Yes and it's very beautiful to see even for locals and also to a foreigner who comes to experience it . But with the beauty of the monsoon comes a threat. For every year on the season there will be slight overflowing of the canals which is quite usual. But on the year 2018 it was not like that monsoon which was a symbol of attraction became a disaster in God's own country Kerala. There was an average of over 35% increase in the rain. It was the worst flood that Kerala has ever seen in a century. Over 483 people died and 140 are missing , even till this day people are suffering not only because all there property is lost but the bodies of there loved ones are yet to be founded. The after affects the people are suffering and a walk through the high ranges of kavalapara in malappuram district is unbearable. No one will ever recognize that place. When I was walking through that valley I could see Nothing but muddy water. The beautiful valley just became a nightmare, only a person who has seen the past and present of the place will only understand that feeling. The 'green valley was on red alert'. A small town is now nothing but a barren land with nothing left, only the tears of the people who are now homeless can only be seen. The life long savings of the families were now nothing but an open cemetery. At that time for the first time in my life, I just got irritated by rain . Not only me but all those who have seen that place would have done exactly the same . All them who have watched that were left with nothing but tears in there eye's. But all those people who were mind shattered after watching the scene were all motivated and thrived with full force for the rescue operation all across Kerala. Help came from all over the world in terms of money and also as volunteers. From the locals to the armed forces were all bought into action . According to the governments an estimate of total of 4537 fisherman community participated in the rescue operation with 669 fishing boats and they managed to rescue more than 65000 people from various districts. The role of fisherman community in the rescue operation were undeniable. The reason is that they were the locals and they knew the route more than anyone present at that time. So they with there boats drove all over the possible location as they could, providing the necessary relief materials and evacuating the people from there homes to relief centres . Thirty four out of fifty five dams within the state were opened, for the first time in history. All five overflow gates of idukki dam situated in idukki were opened at the same time and for the first time in 26 years 5 gates of the malapampuzha dam of palakkad district were opened simultaneously. Property damage of over 400 billion Indian rupees were reported. The depth of this disaster in people's mind is something that the people will never forget that easily . The screaming of the children is still grazing in my mind. Now we know what we want ,we cannot stop or predict any disaster what we can only do is take the necessary precautions.
