Giovanni Pascoli named him “Fanciullino” in one of his most famous literary works, referring to that “little child” that dwells inside each of us since birth and encourages us to push ourselves over our life limits, in order to live it to the fullest. I would rather call him “Baby Michele”, giving him a special tribute for opening up my mind towards the entire world and widening my future horizons beyond measure. And yes: I do confirm that this little personality of your hidden yourself exists. As well as Robin Williams does: “You must strive to find your own voice because the longer you wait to begin, the less likely you are going to find it at all”. His “voice” came to me when I turned 16 and a question kept bouncing into my head, repeatedly: why can’t I actually live the “American Dream”? I figured out at that time I needed to replace dreams with real experiences. So that’s when I proved to myself my calling card: living one exchange year abroad in Saint Cloud High School in Florida, dealing with a new culture, and learning both English and Spanish at once became my joker up my sleeve, ready to let me win my first life’s overseas adventure. “Baby Michele” had finally opened the drawbridge to the world: this time I was the main character who was actually feeling the real Prom night on his skin. This time I was that Benjamin Parker turning into the other myself, that “real-life Spiderman” capable of overcoming barriers and interacting with a new high school student life. “This part of my life, this little part of my life, can be called happiness” would say Will Smith. How to blame him! I had been looking for my own happiness since I was a child, when I couldn’t pronounce the word “journalist” yet, as much as I wouldn’t recognize the importance of having an hidden gift inside me. The same gift that Roberto Benigni compares to a “bone hidden by the dog”. But we know, as much as happiness can hide, when She craves to reveal herself, You start understanding one sweet reality: we must never be afraid of dying, since the real death comes when You never start to really live it up. That’s what America taught me. Since that moment on, I kept converting myself into an elastic band ready to upgrade to the next level: being curious about what's surrounding me and giving answers to questions nobody would take into account have become my life-goals. Exactly like a real journalist would do, I started putting my two passions together in order to both explore and discover for enriching my knowledge about the world's most interesting topics. Getting the chance to forge new friendships and face different cultures shaped me according to that different perspective You’ve always been looking for, that different angle that makes You “constantly look at things in a different way”, as Robin Williams again would add. Since then, the Erasmus+ experiences in Poland at the Adam Mickiewicz University, in Spain at the Basque Country University, in Ghana interning at TV3 News and in Belgium at the European Parliament, in Mexico at the Veracruzana University and in Sweden at the Mid Sweden University made my life even more incredible: as the famous dj Avicii suggests in one of his songs, “I want to be remembered for the live I’ve lived, not for the money I’ve made”. “Baby Michele”, a new project of research thesis in Israel at the Ariel University is calling: let’s get the ball rolling!
