After having researched, dreamed and learned about this place for months, I was finally moments away from setting foot on the country I am so curious about. After descending the airplane, I was immediately welcomed by warm smiles and welcomes. The hot dry air made me look silly in my three-layer winter outfit, and I could not wait to change it for a light, airy dress. I started my route in Cancun, Mexico, a destination known for its tropical beaches and party. But little did I know that I would find magic in every stop of my journey. The Mexican jungle is a paradise for the eye, a big ray of sunshine for your heart and a great historic book for your mind. The Mayas inhabited these woods for thousands of years, and their culture, stories and majestic way of seeing life and hereafter can still be told by means of the impressive buildings they have left behind. These stories, came alive in magic places like Palenque and Tulum. It was as if I was taken back in time, standing in the middle of an alive Mayan city. My next stop was San Cristobal, Chiapas. This small town stole my heart, that's for sure. Beautiful colors everywhere, a glimpse of the mountains on the horizon, and the smell of fresh tacos de Pastor while watching people dance and laugh on the streets made me feel like I had come home. Not even one moment had i felt alone during the first day of this trip. In my hostel I had made a friend, that after only 2 days had become like a brother to me. He could go on for hours, telling me stories about what all had happened in the magical caves we visited. A friend that after 2 years and being 4000 km away, I can still count on, every day. Not only got I to observe places, I had a chance to participate and be one with them as well. In my next stop, Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, located on the Pacific coast, I got invited to a Temascal. By participating in this ancient ritual, I got to cleanse my soul and connect to the sacred energy “Pachamama” (Mother of the Earth). The feeling of acceptance towards myself, the past, the future and everything else around me and the unity with these, was indescribable. This was the first time I was celebrating Christmas away from home, but I would have never expected that I would find a family, with complete strangers from all kinds of backgrounds, speaking different languages, but were all united in the way of getting out there and living life. In my last stop, I reunited with a friend I had met before, whom turned into my sister. We visited the pyramids in Puebla, ate delicious food and simply lived in the moment. What Mexico has taught me is hard to put to words. It is one of the most beautiful countries I have been able to visit, and in some natural way it has turned part of my heart Mexican. Never had I met such sincere people, whom opened the doors to their home, life and heart to me without expecting anything in return. The beautiful colorful clothes and diverse food tell stories in a way that words would never be enough. Landscapes that you can not stop looking at, even after sitting 13 hours in a bus. And lastly, the passion and happiness for the country, family, friends and life comes alive by the music played and sang along by all. Mexico has taught me love in all its forms, unity and gratefulness. A country that I now call home.
