Hungry eyes

A leap into the unknown Norway

People most oftenly go to warm and sunny places during summer, but my eyes were hungry for something completely different. So, I booked myself a plane ticket to far and cold Norway. I had no idea what to expect, coming from an "exotic" and touristic country, popular for it's Adriatic coast - Croatia. I've heard that Scandinavian people were quite stiff and non-welcoming to tourists, but reality was nothing close to those stories I've heard. First thing I noticed was that the stuff at the airport wanted to make me feel safe, as I was travelling alone. I sat at a train and went to the capital, Oslo. Then I had left my lugagge in the hotel and started exploring. Firstly, I visited some of the most famous spots in Oslo, such as Nobel peace prize building, Akker Bridge and Palace. Architecture in Oslo is a mixture of old and rather modern buildings. I preffered the old part of the town, which quite frankly, at some spots reminded me of Howgarts. I was alone, but never felt lonely, as people there always approached me, due to my chattiness and smiling face. I had spoken to the Norweigan priest, then to a homeless man with a dog - and I've gotten so many wise words from both of this men. I was there for so long that I started to have my daily routine. I would wake up, go to my favorite caffee bar and drink a strong turkish caffee, that they are not used to drink in Norway, but somehow they make it taste delicious. After I've had caffee I would go to the fjord, sit on the bench, listen to music, and enjoy the view - Oslo's marine. While I was sitting on the bench, I was accompanied by a young and handsome stranger, and was asked a question if I was a tourist, due to my tanned skin and black eyes, which was complete opposit to this young lad who was as pale as a milk, and had eyes as blue as the sea below us. He showed me some interesing parts of the Oslo, which were not included at travel guides. It's always a bonus to meet a local, as they know better than anyone else. Night life in Oslo is quite different than in the rest of the Europe, for example my homeland Croatia, Spain, or France. People actually have to be 25 y.o. to enter the club, which is such a difference to what I'm used to. Here, people stop going out once they are 25, and settle down. The weather was confusing at first, but then one waitress told me: "If you don't like a weather in Norway, just sit and wait 5 minutes, it will change", which was absolutely true. At first it is rainy, then sunny, then windy, after that it's hot, then so cold you need a blanket. I was not fond of the food, as I don't enjoy sea creatures as much as they do, but I found some exellent restourants that offered tasty meals. I am a student, on 2nd year of literature and history, so I was always interested in cultural and social parts in some countries. I would like to travel the world, as my eyes are always hungry for new adventures and new surroundings. My mother was always telling me: " You are born to go with the wind, not stay in a safe harbour". My financial status does not allow me to travel often, maybe once in few years, and this would make my heart and soul calmer and happy as the child seeing it's mother, for as I am the child of the world, and would like to meet my mother nature fully. I am ready for anything that's waiting for me in the future, as well for this trip, if by some greater power I become the choosen one.
