‘I DIDN’T EXPECT TO FIND’ I travelled to Cape Coast from Accra last year all alone to attend an event. I took a bus that was around 3-4 hours. When I left Accra in November it was bright and sunny but when I got to Cape Coast, it was very cold. Cape Coast was cold, beautiful and crowded. Being from Accra, many things were new to me, the roads, the culture, everything was very different. I was so tired by the bus that as I reached my hotel, I slept. Soon after I woke up, I decided to go out to explore the city. Cape Coast was crowded and busy. There were people rushing to work, to colleges, and tourists looking here and there. Snice I was hungry, the first thing I noticed was a road side vendor selling hot tilapia. There were several vendors on every corner of the road with different type of foods. It was a difficult choice but I chose a hot tilapia since it looked so fresh and tempting. I had the best hot tilapia that I can never forget. The next day I had to go for an event. I left my hotel and look a subway. The subway experience was new for new as well as sitting in the train. The people on the way were friendly and I got chatting with a woman sitting next to me. We talk about how Cape Coat lifestyle is different than many other cities in Ghana and also discussed politics. It was good to be talking to the woman and she told me many things that I would useful for me in the next few days of my trip. I reached my event and after attending it, I decided to go to central field. I asked a few people and checked my map, it was walking distance. I started towards Central field. This is unbelievable! different people all around, in fact I was really socked. I saw a lot of people from different cities. I became very timid and found it difficult to socialize with other people. Regardless of the difference the people around were so friendly. I then decided to make new friends. I made a lot of friends out there. I took my new friends contacts. I spent a lot of time at the central field. Although I needed to move to other places as well. I was very tired, as a result, I returned to my hotel and had a lot of rest. I watched movies and played a lot of different games such as “fifa, and motar kombat”. Fortunately, I was asleep, when I woke up, I decided to walk around the hotel. I saw nothing new because I have been around that place. I went back to my room and planned about my next trip. I was learning a lot of things from my trip, as a result, I decided to write them down in my notepad. I wrote all that was needed. The next day, I moved to “Elmina Castle”, one of the most prestigious places in the Cape Coast city. This is a historical place for the entire country. According to the tourist guards “People were imprisoned here and later sold to slave masters” This made me understood what the woman told me in the train that, people who were notorious when they were enslaved were sold to the slave masters. I was really shocked. Hold and be hold I tried. I saw how the narrow the room was and it contains about thousands of people. I felt sad and decided not to continue anymore. With regards to this I went back to the hotel hoping that, the next day I will move back to Accra. This became very strange to my parent when I told them am returning the next day. They didn’t expect me at that particular day for me to return. The next day, I started preparing so that I can move back to Accra where I came from. I took my bath and dressed very neatly as I do every day. I decided to walk around the hotel for the last time. As I was walking around, I was a very shinning whitish stone on the ground. I didn’t know what was that earlier. I took it and sent it to Accra. It was very strange to me, show that was the first thing I showed to my parent. Behold it was a DIAMOND. All my sadness vanished. I never thought of getting diamond after I got angry and was planning to go back to Accra. I was very happy at that moment. Unfortunately, I had a call from a friend I had at the Central field, he told me he wanted to visit me at the hotel where I lived but he didn’t find the place. He then continued to tell say his father’s diamond has missed. I became very confused as the diamond I got belong to his father. I review to him that I also found a diamond when I was leaving to Accra. According to his father’s description, indeed the diamond was his. I told my parent about it and behold they have also misplaced the diamond. My friend’s father accused me of stealing the diamond. I was arrested by the police. I was only going to be release when the diamond is found. On the third day, they brought in a new prisoner not forgetting I need to write my last paper on the next day so that I can be graduate from school. The new prisoner was with closed hand since he was brought in. In some few hours, he called me and said “I took this diamond on the police desk, so can you take it and hide it since you have been here for long. Fortunately, it was the same diamond I was looking for. I shouted and called the police that am having a diarrhea. They ask me what I need, and I told them I want to see my parent. They called my parent in the few hours. When my parent arrived, I told them that, I have found the diamond. This diamond “I didn’t expect to find”.
